So we HAVE this working theory that every artist that signs to P.Diddy's Bad Boy ends up real big for a second, but then royally screwed up after...Searching for God, dead perhaps or in Jail. This after G-Dep recently confessed to a 93 MURDER that he got away with...??? So G-Deps goin in..Notorious B.I.G. died..
Ma$e- got pretty big but ends up a minister and then flopped. Got some gold singles off of "Double Up" and "Welcome Back"...Hasn't done as much music since late 90's..Puffy wouldnt let him go to G-Unit for less than 2million...
Carl Thomas -Ballooned to #8 and #18 (1and2 RnB) on the charts with hits "I Wish" and "Emotional" but a Family murder caused Him to take time off...He wasn't resigned and hasn't been above #25.
Shyne- was Locked up for a Nightclub Shooting in 2001. He had been out one night with Puffy and Jennifer Lopez. Who Gave Po the Gun? With his Album about to drop...geez..He has since been released, recommited to jail and deported to Belize and finally Israel.He is half jewish but has recently reaffirmed his faith under the name Michael Levi. He is planning to return to rap in 2011..
Da Band-Was mainly a post Faith Evans Stunt. None of the artists went on to much individual success...the show had good ratings though...
112-could credit their rise to fame to Puff's management...They did however ink a Def Jam Deal in 2002 that actually turned into a platinum album. However they have not been as hot on the charts since the Bad Boy produced single "Peaches and Cream".
G-Dep-In and out of the game..He had a couple hits on Bad Boy such as "lets get it"
and "special delivery", but a 2007 argument earned him a month in jail when he couldn't produce 750$. He recently also confessed to a 1993 murder which had been unsolved...
Total- Was Certified Platinum on their stay with Bad Boy. Singles like "What you Want" with Ma$e and No one else and even "Juicy" solidified them as stars. However in 2000 they left the Label and haven't been active as a group since.
The LOX- Puff also didn't want to let these cats go after hit singles like "All about the Benjamins" and "Money Power Respect". They wanted to get away from Puff because the Ruff Ryders Camp had a harder image at the time..not the pop sequencing and shiny suit mentality of Bad Boy. Hey..whatever works. Rumor has it that they may well be reuniting for another album under Bad Boy in 2011.
So the moral of the story is Puff can make life easy for you when you're profitable or hard depending on who he's at the club with...but most likely cats are just plain profitable when they're signed to Bad Boy.
