Buenos Aires (possibly involved...)
According to Cnn's Freedom project, many women are tricked or lured away from homes in poor south american parts such as Bolivia or Colombia To sew Clothes for 200$ a week. They are promised Steady work and a home.
Maria Velasquez was lured with one such promise and this promise proved to get her locked into a sweatshop slave labor position in Argentina. In 2006 she was made to forge documents and alter her son's appearance to look like a girl (forged passport documents) by the sewing company to enter argentina...Once inside, she was forced to work 18hour days 7 days a week and sleep in a hallway with 20 other people. Along with this she was paid only 60$ a week. Her child would often hide under the table when the boss would be yelling at her. She managed to escape by bonding with other
women in her situation and forming an anti slave labor coalition...This just goes to show that if a stranger offers u a fake passport and a train ticket thru Argentina...Please think twice about accepting it...regardless how badly you need that money...Also the shirts were actually marked Sweat free products...Just goes to show how hard people have to go to save a buck these days...
